So this dell laptop came in because it stopped powering on. One of the keyboard screws had loosened itself and shorted out literally the worst part of the board, the charging circuit. It’s under a year old and Dell won’t honor the warranty so I’m goi g to be doing a deep dive into how this particular circuit works.
For all my fellow repair techs, if you run into a similar charging circuit issue where there is this kind of damage and surface mount components need to be replaced but you can’t identify their values just find the charging controller chip, google the part number, and find the manufacturer’s design documents. Most Laptop OEMs just use that same reference circuit from the manufacturer so you can identify capacitor and resistor values (along with what voltages should be where in the chip itself).
